Removable partial denture is a dental prosthesis that replaces the lost natural dentition and associated structures of maxilla and mandible;it can be removed conveniently from the mouth and replaced by the patient.A removable partial denture may be entirely tooth supported or may derive its support from both the teethand the tissues of the residual ridge.The denture base of a tooth-borne removable partial denture derives its support from teeth at each end of the edentulous area.A tooth-tissue supported removable partial denture has at least one denture base that extends anteriorly or posteriorly,terminating in a denture base portion that is not tooth supported.

    A typical removable partial denture includ rests,major connector,minor connector,direct retainers,reciprocal or stabilizing components(as parts of a direct retainer assembly),indirect retainers(if the prosthesis has one or more distal extension bases),one or more bases,each supporting one to several replacement teeth.
